I first saw Abba when they came on the Eurovision Song Contest. It 1974- it was a really big event to sit down and watch it with the family. I’d done my hair- with the big Farrah Fawcett flicks. We were sitting watching them on TV. I remember we had this big brown sofa with wooden handles and palm tree wallpaper behind. I couldn’t believe them when they came on. It sounds funny now but I didn’t know Swedish people could sing like that.
I’ve loved Abba ever since. When the film ‘Mamma Mia’ came out I went to the cinema at Boldon. I was amazed. The scenery was so stunning. Straight away I was desperate to find out where they’d filmed it:
it was Skiathos in Greece. I really, really wanted to go but it was two years before they started flying from Newcastle. When I got there I wasn’t disappointed it’s every bit as beautiful as it is in the film.
I’ve just been on my fourth visit and I visit all the places where they filmed the scenes and watch Mamma Mia in the open air cinema in Skiathos Town.
The husband’s not so impressed!
