I work for an art foundation set up in memory of TV presenter Mark Speight- my hero from being knee high. I loved watching him on the art show ‘Smart.’
I was fourteen at the time of his death and I was going through a difficult time. I suffered depression.
Through my darkest nights it was his art and inspiration that got me through. It was quite hard for me to take in what happened to him and his fiancee and the fact they both died in such horrible circumstances.
Cindy Lauper’s ‘True Colours’ reminds me of him because a lot of things were said about him that weren’t true– and I know his true colours. He was so special to me. I’ve got his autograph tattooed on my foot.
