“George Pickering was the owner of the legendary East Bolden butchers shop. He gave me my first job at sixteen. That was thirty five years ago.
George used to play in a band and would do covers and this was one of them. He would sing all over the North East – the lasses would throw themselves at him.
He was a canny man, like all butchers mean as mustard but a real character. Every time this song comes on the radio I think ‘Aye, George sang that’.”
