I was brought up in South Shields. My Mother used to sing this when I was sitting on her knee. I always use to cry. It’s such a sad song.
I was a softie, I never left my Mother’s side. I would hold my golly and never go further than the front door.
My Dad was tough and would tell me not to cry. He reckoned my sister was more like a boy and I was more like a girl.
My parents aren’t here now so I’m about to change my name to John Michael Deneuve- like the actress. It’s only £33 by deed pole.
